Scapia credit card fees: zero forex, and what you still pay

Scapia's card, issued by Federal Bank, is sold on what it does not charge: no joining fee, no annual fee and no forex markup. The bank's terms still list charges that catch people out, mostly on rent, wallets and heavy bill months. Every figure below is read from those terms.

Quick answer

Free: joining, annual fee, forex markup. Charged: 1% + GST on rent and wallet loads, the same on utility or fuel spends past ₹50,000 in a month, a late fee by statement balance, 3.75% a month interest on unpaid balances, and at least ₹500 for any cash withdrawal.

A zero forex markup is rare among Indian cards. See how it compares on forex markup on every card.

Rent and wallet loads: 1% every time

Federal Bank charges a 1% convenience fee plus GST on rent and on wallet loads, up to ₹3,000 per transaction. There is no free allowance: the first rupee is charged. Scapia also lists both among the payments that earn no Scapia Coins (see what earns no Scapia Coins), so nothing comes back to offset the fee.

Rent of ₹25,000 a month (our arithmetic)
Rent paid by card₹25,000
Convenience fee, 1%₹250
Scapia Coins earned on rentNone
Cost each month₹250 + GST

The ₹3,000 cap per transaction is reached only on a payment of ₹3,00,000, so for most rent it never applies.

OneCard charges for wallet and transfer spends too, on a different rule: see the OneCard wallet transfer fee.

Utility bills and fuel past ₹50,000 a month

Utility and fuel spends are free of the convenience fee until they pass ₹50,000 in a month. Past that, each attracts 1% plus GST, up to ₹3,000per transaction. The terms do not say whether the fee then applies to the whole month's spend or only to the part above the line, so we do not give an example.

Fuel has a separate benefit: a 1% surcharge waiver on fuel transactions up to ₹5,000, worth at most ₹500a month. Fuel and utility bills earn no Scapia Coins; Scapia's own pages disagree on exactly which bills are excluded, and we set both lists side by side.

Paying late, or paying only part

The late fee depends on the statement balance:

Statement balanceLate payment charge
Under ₹100Nil
₹100–500₹100
₹501–5,000₹500
₹5,001–10,000₹600
₹10,001–25,000₹750
₹25,001–50,000₹950
Above ₹50,000₹1,000

Interest is 3.75% per month (45% a year), and the terms are strict about when it starts. The interest-free period of up to 48 days applies only if the previous bill was paid in full. Pay less than the total, even the minimum due, and the whole outstanding balance attracts interest, as do new purchases from the day you make them, until the balance is cleared. GST is added to all fees and interest.

The minimum due is stated two ways

5% of purchases and cash withdrawals plus interest (minimum ₹100), plus 100% of EMIs, taxes, charges and fees. The body text says 5% of the total amount due instead, and its worked example uses that.

Cash withdrawals

Withdrawing cash costs 2.5% of the amount or ₹500, whichever is higher, and interest of 3.75% a month runs from the day you withdraw, with no interest-free period. You can withdraw up to 10% of your card limit.

Withdrawing ₹5,000 in cash (our arithmetic)
2.5% of the amount₹125
Minimum fee₹500
Interest3.75% a month from day one
Fee charged, before GST and interest₹500

Going over your limit, and a new card

Spending past your limit costs 2.5% of the amount over, minimum ₹500. A replacement card costs ₹200 + GST.

What we have not recorded yet

The terms also list charges we have not yet checked into our database: a fee when an auto-debit payment bounces, and processing and foreclosure fees for EMIs, which changed on 1 June 2026. We do not quote them until they are. Read them in Federal Bank's Scapia MITC.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Scapia credit card have any fees?
No joining fee, no annual fee and no forex markup, per Federal Bank's terms. It still charges a 1% convenience fee plus GST on rent and wallet loads, the same on utility and fuel spends over ₹50,000 in a month, late payment charges by statement balance, interest of 3.75% a month on unpaid balances, and a cash withdrawal fee.
Does Scapia charge a fee on rent payments?
Yes. Federal Bank's terms charge 1% plus GST on rent, up to ₹3,000 per transaction. Scapia also lists rent among the payments that earn no Scapia Coins, so nothing offsets the fee.
Does Scapia charge for loading a wallet?
Yes, 1% plus GST on every wallet load, up to ₹3,000 per transaction. Wallet loads earn no Scapia Coins either.
Is there a fee on utility bills with Scapia?
Only once your utility spends pass ₹50,000 in a month: then 1% plus GST, up to ₹3,000 per transaction. The terms do not say whether the fee applies to the whole month's utility spend or only to the part above ₹50,000.
What is the Scapia late payment fee?
It depends on the statement balance, from nothing under ₹100 up to ₹1,000 above ₹50,000. GST applies to all fees and interest, per the terms.
Does Scapia really charge zero forex markup?
Yes. Federal Bank's terms list the foreign currency mark-up as 0% (Nil). Separately, Scapia's own website lists "forex transactions" among those that earn no rewards, without defining the term, so it is not clear whether card spends abroad earn Scapia Coins.

Card Fine Print is independent and not affiliated with Scapia, Federal Bank or any card issuer. Figures come from Scapia Federal Credit Card Most Important Terms & Conditions (Version 11, 30.04.2026); they change, and the issuer's current terms always win. This is not financial advice.
