Jupiter Edge Jewels: what they are worth, and what earns nothing

Jewels are the reward points on Jupiter's Edge and Edge+ cards, issued by CSB Bank. What you get back depends on two things Jupiter does not make obvious: how you spend, and how you redeem.

What a Jewel is worth

A Jewel has two values. Spend it inside Jupiter and it is worth more; take it as money and it is worth less.

You redeem forOne Jewel1,000 Jewels (our arithmetic)
Jupiter Flights, Jupiter Store, brand vouchers, digital gold₹0.20₹200
Statement credit, bill payments, cash₹0.14₹140

So taking Jewels off your bill is worth 30% less than spending them on a voucher you would have bought anyway. If you redeem as statement credit, every reward rate on the card is effectively 30% lower than it looks.

What “2% Jewels” means is not defined

Jupiter writes every rate as a percentage in Jewels (“2.0% Jewels”, “10%”, “50%”) and never says what that means in rupees. If it means 2 Jewels for every ₹100, the return is 0.4% at ₹0.20 a Jewel and 0.28% at ₹0.14. That is our reading, not Jupiter's statement: check your Jewels against a month of eligible spend before relying on it.

How Edge earns

How Edge+ earns

Edge+ (the RuPay version) earns Jewels only on UPI payments made through the Jupiter app, and its shopping rate now depends on how much you spend.

The MITC charges Edge+ a ₹999 joining fee, but Jupiter's terms page mentions that fee only for the Edge+ Mastercard. Check the app before you apply.

What earns nothing

On both cards: fuel, government payments, rent, utility bills, insurance premiums, tax payments, wallet loads, gift and prepaid card loads, vouchers, cash advances, card bill payments, card fees and any EMI. Jupiter's merchant-code list also excludes telecom, internet services, cable and DTH, tolls and app-store purchases. Bills earn nothing on most other app cards too: see which cards still reward bills.

How you lose Jewels

The fee that matters most abroad

Edge and Edge+ charge a 3.5% forex markup on international spends. For travel, that usually outweighs any Jewels. Compare it on forex markup on every card, and see every Edge fee on the Jupiter hub. For how reward rates compare across Indian cards generally, see the economics of card rewards.

Frequently asked questions

What is one Jewel worth?
It depends on how you redeem it. Jupiter values a Jewel at ₹0.20 when you spend it on Jupiter Flights, the Jupiter Store, brand vouchers or digital gold, and at ₹0.14 when you take it as statement credit, a bill payment or cash.
Do UPI payments on Edge earn Jewels?
Only UPI payments made with the card through the Jupiter app. Jupiter's terms say payments through other UPI apps do not qualify. On Edge+, Jewels are earned only on UPI payments through the Jupiter app.
Do Jupiter Jewels expire?
They do not have a fixed expiry, but they are cancelled if the card is not used for more than 365 days, and they lapse if your dues go unpaid for 90 days. If the minimum amount due on your latest bill is unpaid, that cycle's Jewels are locked and earning pauses until you pay.
Do utility bills earn Jewels on Jupiter Edge?
No. Jupiter's terms list utility bill payments among the spends that earn no Jewels, along with fuel, rent, insurance premiums, tax, wallet loads, vouchers, card bill payments and EMIs.
What does '2% Jewels' mean in rupees?
Jupiter does not say. It writes its rates as a percentage in Jewels without defining them. If it means 2 Jewels for every ₹100, that is 0.4% back when redeemed at ₹0.20 a Jewel and 0.28% at ₹0.14. Compare your Jewels with a month's eligible spend to see which reading Jupiter applies.

Card Fine Print is independent and not affiliated with Jupiter, CSB Bank or any card issuer. Figures come from Jupiter's terms page and CSB Bank's MITC, read 27 October 2026; they change, and the issuer's current terms always win. This is not financial advice.
